Hiring a creator in another country: time zones, payments and rights
6 min read · Updated 1 November 2026
In short: How Indian and international businesses work smoothly with editors, designers and writers abroad, from first call to final payment.
Why businesses hire across borders
Editing, design and writing are delivered online, so the right creator may live in another city or country. Businesses do it to find a particular style or language, to work across time zones so work is ready by morning, or to fit a budget.
Time zones can help
If you send footage at the end of your day and your editor's day is just starting, you can have a draft by the next morning. Agree a daily overlap of an hour or two for calls, and use written updates for the rest.
Agree payment terms early
Settle the currency, the payment method, and when payment is due: for example half upfront and half on delivery, or monthly in advance for packs. Use a payment method that suits both countries and keeps a record. Clarify who pays transfer fees.
If you are in India paying a creator abroad, or a creator in India receiving payment from abroad, check the tax and documentation rules that apply to you, such as invoices and GST where relevant.
Rights and ownership
Write down who owns the final work, whether the creator may show it in their portfolio, and how long you may use it in paid ads. For UGC and voice-over especially, usage rights are part of the price.
Language and culture
Content for Indian audiences in Hindi, Tamil or Bengali needs a creator who speaks the language natively. For Gulf, Southeast Asian or Western audiences, a creator who knows those platforms and references will save you rounds of changes. Every profile on the directory lists languages.
